Where are Rapunzel’s Hair Extensions Produced?
Rapunzel’s hair extensions are produced in carefully selected facilities in China. We work closely with our partners to ensure high-quality standards and ethical practices throughout the production process. Our suppliers follow strict guidelines to give that hair donors receive fair compensation and that all processing methods meet our quality and safety standards.
How do you ensure that the hair is donated ethically?
We ensure that the hair is donated ethically through three important initiatives:
Code of Conduct: We only work with suppliers who adhere to our strict Code of Conduct.
Traceability Protocol: We have a protocol to track the hair throughout the entire supply chain, from donation to the finished product, striving to ensure transparency and accountability
Guarantee for Ethical Hair Donation: We collaborate exclusively with partners who have signed an agreement on ethical hair donation. This agreement is based on the principles that the hair is donated voluntarily, and that the donor receives fair compensation.
How are the extensions made, from raw hair to hair extensions?
1. Sorting & Storage
Large raw hair bundles are stored in a warehouse, where they are carefully sorted by quality and length to ensure consistency in the final product.
2. Identifying Root Direction and Length
To keep the hair aligned correctly, different colored stitches are used to mark the root direction and the length of smaller bundles. This prevents tangling and ensures a natural fall.
3. Alignment Check
A machine inspects the hair to verify that all strands are aligned in the same direction. This is crucial for preventing matting and ensuring smooth application.
4. Bleaching & Dyeing
The hair is colored based on its original shade and quality:
If necessary, the hair undergoes a chemical bath before dyeing to remove impurities and prepare it for even color absorption.
The hair is then bleached and dyed to match different shades in the product range.
5. End Treatment and Dyeing
Once colored, the hair receives an end treatment to strengthen the strands and improve durability. The hair is then dried in ovens to set the color and remove excess moisture.
6. Ration Confirmation
To ensure a consistent thickness from top to bottom, short hairs are removed from the bundles. This process helps confirm the correct hair ratio for a uniform appearance.
7. Final Inspection and Packaging
Before packaging, the hair is:
Checked for discoloration to maintain quality standards.
Weighed into smaller bundles according to product specifications.
Sent to workstations for final processing before being packed and made ready for sale.
*The description of the manufacturing process is general. Deviations for specific products may occur.
Are chemicals used in the processing of hair, and if so, which ones?
Rapunzel follows relevant legislation for cosmetic products and adapts to country-specific restrictions. Our most common chemicals used in the preparation of natural hair are as follows:
1. Tartaric Acid:
Purpose: Used as a pH adjuster and mineral binder.
Why: Helps maintain the acidity of hair treatment solutions and binds metal ions to improve the stability of formulations.
2. Potassium Persulfate:
Purpose: Bleaching agent.
Why: Commonly used in hair bleaching powders to lighten natural hair color and prepare hair extensions for dyeing.
3. Potassium Hypochlorite:
Purpose: Disinfectant and bleaching agent.
Why: Used to sanitize hair and remove unwanted colors or impurities during hair processing.
4. Sodium Pyrophosphate:
Purpose: Mineral remover and water softener.
Why: Helps prevent mineral build-up from hard water during hair washing and processing, keeping the hair soft and manageable.
5. Ammonium Sulfate:
Purpose: pH adjuster and stabilizer in hair coloring products.
Why: Often used in hair dyes to balance pH and stabilize hydrogen peroxide in coloring formulations.
6. Ferrous Sulfate:
Purpose: Colorant and color fixer.
Why: Can enhance or stabilize darker hair dye colors, contributing to consistent and long-lasting colors in hair extensions.
7. Citric Acid:
Purpose: pH adjuster and water purifier.
Why: Helps balance the acidity of hair products and can also remove mineral deposits from the hair during processing.
8. Hydrogen Peroxide:
Purpose: Bleaching and oxidizing agent.
Why: Essential in hair lightening processes, enabling hair to be dyed in a wide range of shades. It also helps disinfect the hair.
9. Fatty Alcohol Polyoxyethylene Ether:
Purpose: Cleaning agent.
Why: Helps to clean and condition the hair.
10. Detergent:
Purpose: Cleaning agent.
Why: Used to remove dirt, oils, and residues from hair, ensuring that hair extensions are hygienic and ready for use.
