Extension secrets from fitness bloggers

2017-04-04

Fitness bloggers Malin Bjork and Ellen Farnstrom have spent plenty of hours at the gym. Here, they give you their tips and tricks on their fave extensions, workout hair, and cute clips for gym updos. They've also helped us answer the question: "Can you really work out with extensions?"

What tips do you have for using hair extensions while working out?

I don't see any problems working out with hair extensions. Just make sure you put your hair up and try not to wash it too often.

What do you think is the biggest misconception when it comes to working out with extensions?

The most common misconception is that long hair is impractical. If you put it up in a pony tail, braid or bun, it's no problem.

What products from Rapunzel are your favorites and why?

My absolute favorite product is the Rapunzel-European hair extensions, it's amazing hair that I always use and it never tangles.

How do you style your hair before a workout?

I always put my hair in a ponytail or two braids.

Do you have an idea of what workout and gym 'dos will be popular in 2017?

I think messy braids will continue their reign throughout 2017.

What tips do you have for using hair extensions while working out?

My tip is to wash your hair as infrequently as possible and let it dry naturally, that way it doesn't get as worn. I do it 3 times a week, and if I sweat a lot, I just use water and conditioner.

What do you think is the biggest misconception when it comes to working out with extensions?

The biggest misconception is probably that a lot of people seem to think that you can't put your hair up without the clips showing, or that the extensions get too worn out by sweating and showering. And that's not true. I'm a living example!

How do you style your hair before a workout?

At the gym I usually put my hair up in a high pony tail. When I want to mix it up I do a French braid. It's really nice to combine a ponytail and a braid, meaning a high ponytail that you then braid. It's stylish and comfortable too, especially when you're doing really sweaty workouts and don't want your hair to stick to your back.

Do you have an idea of what workout and gym 'dos will be popular in 2017?

I think the standard ponytail will stay current. I also think French braids will stick around.
